The short answer

Eye plastic surgery covers operations on the eyelids, the corners of the eye and the brow area. The most common are upper blepharoplasty for hooded lids, double eyelid surgery for a defined crease, ptosis correction for a weak lifting muscle, lower blepharoplasty for under-eye bags, and canthoplasty to change eye length or tilt. The right choice depends on which structure is causing the problem.

i.

What does eye plastic surgery involve?

Most people arrive describing a feeling rather than a structure: they look tired, the eyes seem small, make-up smudges by midday, or one eye sits lower than the other. Each of those can come from a different layer — loose skin, a heavy brow, a weak levator muscle, a fold at the inner corner, or fat pushing forward under the eye.

The first job of the consultation is to work out which layer it is. A patient who believes she needs double eyelid surgery may actually have mild ptosis; someone asking for an eyelid lift may be better served by a sub-brow lift. Getting the diagnosis right matters more than the technique.

iii.

How do I know which eye surgery I need?

Likely cause Usual procedure Typical downtime
Hooded upper lid Excess skin Upper blepharoplasty or sub-brow lift 7–10 days
Sleepy, half-open look Weak levator muscle Ptosis correction 10–14 days
No crease or uneven crease Lid anatomy Double eyelid surgery 7–14 days
Short or crowded inner eye Epicanthal fold Epicanthoplasty 7–10 days
Bags and dark grooves below Fat bulge, volume loss Lower blepharoplasty 7–10 days

Several causes often appear together. Dr. Lee will explain which ones she sees and which she would leave alone.

Frequently asked questions

Which eye surgery is most common?

Upper blepharoplasty and double eyelid surgery are the most frequently requested, often combined with ptosis correction when the lid muscle is weak.

Can several eye procedures be done at once?

Often, yes. Upper and lower eyelid surgery, or double eyelid surgery with epicanthoplasty, are commonly combined in one session when it is safe.

Will my eyes look Westernised?

Not unless you ask for it. Crease height and shape are designed around your own anatomy and the look you want.

Is eyelid surgery done under general anaesthesia?

Most eyelid procedures use local anaesthesia with sedation. General anaesthesia is reserved for combined or longer operations.

When can I fly home?

Usually after 7–10 days, once stitches are out and Dr. Lee has checked healing.

Can I get advice before I travel?

Yes. Send clear, front-facing photos on WhatsApp for a free initial opinion from Dr. Lee.
