The short answer

Lip augmentation adds volume and shape to the lips, most often with hyaluronic acid filler injected in small amounts along the border and body of the lip. It can define the Cupid's bow, correct upper–lower imbalance and smooth fine vertical lip lines. Filler results usually last 6–12 months and can be dissolved if needed. Fat grafting is a longer-lasting option for selected patients.

What is lip augmentation?

Lips change in two ways with age and anatomy: they lose volume, and they lose definition — the crisp border and the peaks of the Cupid's bow soften. Good augmentation addresses whichever is actually missing, rather than simply making the lips bigger.

Most patients are treated with hyaluronic acid filler, which is placed precisely and can be dissolved with an enzyme if you dislike the result. Patients having other procedures with fat harvesting, such as facial fat transfer, can sometimes have a small amount of fat placed in the lips too. If your upper lip looks long rather than thin, philtrum shortening may change more than filler.

Who is lip augmentation right for?

  • Naturally thin lips that you would like a little fuller.
  • A flat or undefined Cupid's bow or a blurred lip border.
  • Upper and lower lips out of balance, often a thin upper lip.
  • Fine vertical lines around the lips with age.
  • No active cold sores, pregnancy or recent dental infection.

How is lip filler injected?

01 Design Dr. Lee studies your lip proportions at rest and smiling, and agrees the shape and amount with you.
02 Numbing Numbing cream is applied; most fillers also contain local anaesthetic.
03 Injection Small amounts are placed along the border, the Cupid's bow and the body of the lip with a fine needle or cannula.
04 Review Symmetry is checked sitting upright; a top-up can be planned after swelling settles if wanted.

What happens after lip augmentation?

First 24 hours Lips look fuller than the final result; avoid pressure, alcohol and hot drinks.
Day 2–3 Most swelling settles; small bruises can be covered with lipstick.
Week 2 Filler has integrated and the true shape is visible; review if needed.
Month 6–12 Gradual softening as the filler is absorbed; top-up if you wish.

What are the risks of lip filler?

Common, short-lived effects are swelling, bruising and tenderness. Less often, lumps, asymmetry or filler moving above the lip border can occur, especially after repeated large volumes. A rare but serious risk is filler blocking a blood vessel, which needs immediate treatment with dissolving enzyme — one reason lip injections should be done by an experienced doctor. Filler can trigger a cold sore flare in people prone to them.

How long does lip filler last?

Usually 6–12 months, sometimes longer in the border, depending on the product and your metabolism.

Does it hurt?

Most patients describe mild discomfort. Numbing cream and anaesthetic in the filler keep it tolerable.

Can lip filler be reversed?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme if needed.

Will my lips look overdone?

Not if the amount is planned for your face. Dr. Lee starts conservatively and adds only if you want more.

Can I fly after lip filler?

Yes, usually the next day. Swelling may be a little more noticeable on the flight.

Can I combine it with other treatments?

Yes. Lip filler is often done on the same day as other injectables or skin treatments.
