What is a mini facelift?
In the late 30s and 40s, the first sign of facial ageing is often a slight blurring of the jaw line and a heavier lower cheek, while the neck is still firm. A full facelift would be more surgery than needed, but threads and devices give only a temporary or mild change.
A mini facelift sits in between. The incision is shorter, the dissection more limited, and the lift concentrates on the lower cheek and jowl. It is close in concept to a jowl lift, with a slightly wider area of effect on the lower mid-face.
Am I a candidate for a mini facelift?
- Early jowls that soften the jaw line, usually in the late 30s to 50s.
- Good skin elasticity with only a little excess skin.
- A neck that is still firm without strong bands.
- Previous device or thread treatments that no longer hold.
- Limited time off and a wish for a smaller scar.
If your neck is loose or the mid-face has fallen markedly, a full facelift will last longer and look more balanced. If you are not yet ready for surgery, non-invasive lifting is a reasonable first step.

How long is mini facelift recovery?
| Day 1–3 | Mild swelling and tightness along the jaw; head raised while sleeping. |
|---|---|
| Day 7 | Stitches removed; bruising mostly gone. |
| Week 2 | Presentable with light make-up; most patients fly home. |
| Month 2–3 | Remaining firmness softens and the lift looks fully natural. |
“A smaller operation is only better if it solves the problem. I will tell you honestly if a mini lift would not be enough.”

What are the risks of a mini facelift?
Risks are similar to a full facelift but usually less frequent: bruising, haematoma, temporary numbness in front of the ear, visible scarring and, rarely, temporary facial nerve weakness. Because the lift is smaller, it may not last as long as a full facelift, and a later top-up procedure is sometimes needed.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a mini facelift last?
Usually several years. It lasts longer than threads or devices but not as long as a full facelift.
Is a mini facelift worth it in my 40s?
It can be, if jowls are visible and the neck is still firm. Dr. Lee will tell you if devices would be enough instead.
Where is the scar?
In the natural crease just in front of the ear, sometimes extending slightly around the earlobe.
Can I combine it with fat grafting?
Yes. Fat grafting is often added to restore volume in the cheeks or temples during the same session.
Is it done under general anaesthesia?
Most mini facelifts are done under local anaesthesia with IV sedation.
When can I fly home?
Most patients fly around 10–14 days after surgery, after stitch removal and a final check.
