What is eye bag removal surgery?
The eye sits in a cushion of fat held back by a thin membrane. When that membrane loosens — through genetics as early as the twenties, or with age — the fat bulges forward and casts a shadow underneath. Creams, sleep and cold spoons cannot push it back.
Eye bag removal addresses that bulge through a small opening inside the lower eyelid (the transconjunctival approach). Rather than scooping out all the fat, Dr. Lee usually redistributes it into the groove beneath, which avoids the sunken look that excessive removal can cause. If your lower-lid skin is also loose or crepey, a fuller lower blepharoplasty may suit you better.
Who is eye bag removal for?
- Puffy bags present since your twenties or thirties often running in the family.
- Firm, elastic lower-lid skin with few fine wrinkles.
- A shadow below the bulge that concealer only partly hides.
- No interest in an external scar or longer downtime.
- Healthy eyes without significant dry eye.
Bags that swell and shrink day to day may be fluid or allergy-related rather than fat. Dr. Lee checks this before recommending surgery.

This is one of the gentler eyelid operations, but it is still surgery. Possible issues include bruising, temporary blurred vision from ointment, small residual bulges, mild asymmetry and, if too much fat is removed, a hollow look. Because the skin is not cut, lower-lid pull-down is uncommon. For thin, dark under-eye skin that remains after surgery, an under-eye skin booster can help.

Will my eye bags come back?
The fat removed or repositioned does not regrow in the same way, so results usually last many years.
Is there a scar?
With the inner-lid approach there is no visible scar on the skin.
Am I too young for eye bag removal?
Genetic bags can appear in your twenties, and treating them early with the inner approach is reasonable if the bulge is truly fat.
Can it fix dark circles?
It removes the shadow cast by the bag. Pigment in the skin itself needs separate treatment.
Does it hurt?
